We're up and running!

On February 28 at 5pm, 165 young adults and families came to the first dia•spora gathering, and the feedback so far has been really positive.  The music was fresh, the interaction was great, and several people walked away saying, “When is the next time we can do this?”  (The answer is March 28 at 5pm)

If you missed it, we kicked off the dia•spora gathering by talking about the story of Proverbs, “It all starts here.”  The recording of the message and service can be heard here. Our hope is that this ministry would become a community of people who live beautifully, artfully.  Many of us are spewing with passion.  Few of us have wisdom. And it all starts with the fear-of-the-LORD.  The gathering was a good start to what we hope grows into a vibrant community of Jesus followers.

But you don’t have to wait until next month to be a part of dia•spora.  The heartbeat of this ministry is lifegroups.  If you are not yet involved with a lifegroup, you can check the events page for a list of groups that you are welcome to join.

Sunday, Sunday, Sunday!

The dia•spora gathering is almost here!  Sunday, February 28 at 5pm will be the first time we gather this scattered community together for worship.  To this point, the dia•spora has been grass roots, community driven.  We’ve been meeting as small communities of love, aimed at fostering spiritual friendship.  And many of those lifegroups are beginning to engage in mission by reaching out to those in need—the homeless,  the elderly, and the immigrant community here in Columbus.  Now we’re gathering for to worship for the first time.  And the whole point of the body of Christ gathering is so that when we scatter, we are changed.  We leave as messengers, witnesses, those who have seen and heard something that changes everything.  Our hope and prayer is that you will hear from God as we gather, so that when we scatter, you are empowered to be God’s people, Jesus’ people to this world.  Make that your prayer as well.  I hope to see you Sunday.

Join us on the Lenten Journey

Young adults join with us on this Lenten journey as we immerse ourselves in several stories of some who responded in faith to a divine conversation.

We’ll be kicking off the Lenten season this weekend on February 13/14th as guest speaker, Scot McKnight joins us at all weekend services. Scot is a widely recognized authority on the New Testament, early Christianity, and the historical Jesus. He is the Karl A. Olsson Professor in Religious Studies at North Park University in Chicago. Scot obtained his Ph.D. at the University of Nottingham in 1986. He is the author of thirty different books including the award winning The Jesus Creed: Loving God, Loving Others. Check out his blog by clicking here.

Scot has spent much of his life speaking to people in the college/young adult stage of life, so it should be a great weekend!

Next we’ll celebrate the official beginning of Lent on February 17th at 7pm at our Ash Wednesday service. There will be personal reflective stations open throughout the building from 6-9pm.

Over the next six weeks in the weekend services we’ll expose ourselves to stories from the past as we hear conversion stories of Zacchaeus, the blind man, Peter, the women at the well, Caiaphas and Simon the Cyrene. We’ll also hear present-day testimonies of people in our church family with radical conversion stories.

Pick up a Lenten devotional from the tables in the church as the weekday disciplines in the book will focus on spiritual practices that guide us in reflecting upon these stories, praying through them and learning to live them out as individuals and in community.

If you are looking to join a life group, the Lenten season is a great time to start. Our hope is that through the few weeks we practice these spiritual disciples, God will transform us both as individuals and as a community of faith, that he would draw us closer to his heart and to each other.
