On Sunday, September 26, 2010, our men’s ministry will be sponsoring a golf outing at the beautiful and challenging Bent Tree Golf Course, just fifteen minutes from the Heritage facility, 350 Bent Tree Road, in Sunbury. The cost for this event is $49 per person and includes green fee, cart, and amenities like range balls, personalized cart signs, and professional scoring. Please be ready to start by 1:30 p.m. and, immediately following, there is an all-you-can eat buffet, with pulled pork and chicken included! You can register online by going to the Heritage website and click on ministries, men, and then events. Heritage R12 Groups

At Heritage, there are a number of men’s groups that meet throughout the week and the good news is, we are going to launch three new ones in the fall! The format is simple: Gather at the church building (in room 210), watch the R12 DVD teaching from Chip Ingram, take some notes in a study guide, engage in discussion with other guys and then close in prayer.

Wednesdays, beginning Sept. 15, 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm

Fridays, beginning Sept. 17, 6:15 am – 7:30 am

Saturdays, beginning Sept. 18, 8:00 am – 9:30 am

Growth Opportunities Early Next Year

We will continue to encourage guys to connect with a transformational healing group, which is a 16-week journey involving 3-6 men meeting with trained leaders. This group experience, developed by Dr. Terry Wardle of Ashland Theological Seminary, will enable men to overcome the negative affects of the disappointments and hurts of the past and learn to live in the victory of Christ. Specific dates and times will be posted in the next month.

Also, in January, we are planning to launch a new, 8-week group experience for men entitled Band of Brothers. The stated goal of this ministry is to help guys move from success to meaning, addictions to freedom, and from selfishness to God’s call. Brian Buck and Kevin Genth will lead this effort. More details to come.

Mark your calendar: On Friday night, February 18, 2011, and Saturday morning, February 19, Heritage is privileged to have Dr. Terry Wardle with us for a men’s event. Terry will share biblical insights on how our family of origin impacts us and how we can position ourselves before the Lord for ongoing growth.

On Tuesday, August 31, 2010, the men’s ministry of Heritage Christian Church is privileged to have Chip Ingram as our guest speaker! If you don’t know who Chip is, he is a wonderful man of God, who has authored many books, including, “God: As He Longs for You to See Him,” “Good to Great in God’s Eyes,” “Effective Parenting,” “Love, Sex, and Lasting Relationships,” “I am With You  Always,” etc.

Chip has a radio ministry called “Living on the Edge,” has years of pastoral experience, was formerly the President of Walk Through the Bible Ministries, and is in high demand all around the world as one of the most influential leaders in the body of Christ today. And the good news is, he’s coming to Heritage for a one-night event just for men! This one-night event will go from 6:45 pm to 8:30 pm. Chip will be helping us kick-off a fall emphasis using his R12 DVD teaching series, based on Romans 12.

Surrendered to God – Romans 12:1 

Separate from the world – Romans 12:2

Sober in self-assessment – Romans 12:3-8

Serving in love – Romans 12:9-16

Supernaturally responding to evil with good – Romans 12:17-21

The weekend begins with an awesome buffet dinner at The Dutch Kitchen (affiliated with Der Dutchman Restaurant), in Plain City, at 6 pm. There is no cost for this scrumptious meal, however donations will be accepted.

We will then take off to Camp Wesley for a powerful time together. The weekend will include talks by the following men and plenty of opportunities for meaningful discussion:

John Buckles – Enlarging the Band of Brothers

Bob Buchan – Men of Maximum Impact

These six, Christ-centered activities, serve as a roadmap for what our men’s ministry will be focused on in the coming year, and we invite all men to participate! For those who are already serving or who are willing to serve in one of these six areas, we’re heading to Camp Wesley for a time of encouragement, spiritual refreshment, and team building.

The advance begins on Friday night, with a 6pm dinner at the Dutch Kitchen, a restaurant with the same recipes and food as the famous Der Dutchman restaurant in Plain City. After we finish our buffet supper, we will be heading to Camp Wesley for a special time together. The cost for the Men’s Advance is $48 (which includes breakfast, lunch, and snacks) and we will be receiving donations to cover the costs of the Friday night dinner.

Mike spoke on the topic, “Making a living or Making a life?” In this talk, the men were challenged to consider what it means to live in light of eternity. It is so easy to get caught up in the things of this world and put so much emphasis on what we have right now, that we fail to prioritize living for Christ and putting His kingdom first in our lives. It was awesome to see so many men gathering together to hear from this man of God. If we can only apply this teaching to our lives, by God’s grace, we will never be the same!

We don’t want money to be the reason why men don’t attend this event, so we’ve decided not to charge a set amount. Instead, we will have a basket available to receive donations to cover our costs.

You don’t have to be a great golfer — it’s a four man scramble. If you don’t have a group we’ll be glad to pair you up with others. This event is a great way to introduce your neighbors, co-workers or friends to other Christian people in a fun and non-threatening atmosphere. 

On Saturday, April 24, from 8:00 am - 9:15 am, our men’s ministry has volunteered to help out with our Missio Dei mission’s conference. We will be responsible to serve a continental breakfast for the participants of this event. Jesus said, it is more blessed to give than to receive, and there is nothing quite like the joy of serving others in His name.
