Summary of the Parent Information Launch Meeting

We had a great turnout at our Parent Informational Launch Meeting yesterday. If you werent able to attend, we discussed the vision and program development the student ministry has been undergoing in the last several months. We presented the plans and programs for the 2011-2012 school year with most of the changes coming during the weekend classes. We are very excited about the launch of the new curriculum, new Sunday morning programs and all that God is going do in the student ministry world this year!

If you missed any of the information, you can find the informational packet here.

And you can download the powerpoint presentation here.

Of course, these programs and plans cannot be effective without parents and volunteers. We are asking all parents of regular attending students to plan to volunteer in some aspect this year. We will be having a Volunteer Training this coming Sunday, August 28th during the 9am and 11am service. Please plan to attend one of these sessions even if you’re not sure where to serve!

Any questions or comments can be directed to Adam Walters or Karen Matis.

August High School Plans

The high school ministry is coming off a fun July with scavenger hunts, hanging out at Zoombezi Bay and a trip to Cedar Point. We also just got back from an amazing week at Camp Living Stones in Tennessee where students had a lot of fun, but many also had life changing encounters with God as well!

We’ve also been using the last few weeks to evaluate the student programming for both middle and high school. We are in the process of making some changes and will be unveiling our plans for this upcoming year and beyond at the Parent/Student information meeting on Sunday August 21st during the 11 a.m. service. Parents in room 210 and students in 110/outside. You don’t want to miss this meeting!

To finalize plans and preparaion for this meeting on the 21st, we are not going to have any high school programming on Sunday mornings in the month of August.(Except for the 21st) We will kick-off all Sunday morning high school programming on Sunday Sept. 11th.

Spring Craziness

As the weather finally starts to warm up I just wanted to take a moment and reflect on how fast the last few weeks have flown by and let you know all the things that high school students have been up to:

High School Worship Night: At the end of March we hosted a student worship night and gathered with six other high school ministries to worship the Lord. It was a powerful night full of testimonies, music, and praise. It is truly a remarkable thing to witness around 180 high school students from so many different churches passionately worshipping Christ through song.

Girls Overnighter: We had a bunch of high school girls spend the night in a hotel with many of our young adult female leaders. The night was themed: Unveiled. It was based on 2 Cor. 3:18 and was about seeing ourselves the way that God sees us. And it was a great time of removing lies we believe, heart to heart talks, and girl time!

Guys Overnighter: At the beginning of April the guys met to talk about being a man and “living the dream!” We had a cookout, fierce competition, and an engaging message before breaking into groups and staying the night in some of the guys houses. We gathered again in the morning to do team building activities and hear another message before driving up to Splatter Park and playing paintball! It was a great, fun-filled event!

Serving Saturdays: In March, we partnered with Westerville Parks and Recreation and picked up trash around the pond off Spring Rd., we also walked around the campus of Westerville North High School and picked up litter there as well. In April, we went and did yard work and up keep on DOMA’s Bloom House. This place houses women who are making the transition from being in jail for prostitution to starting a new life.

We have continued with all of our weekly programming as well with the LeaderSHIP class meeting on Sunday mornings, Elevate on Sunday nights, and small groups meeting throughout the week. Please continue to pray for high school students as they wrestle with what it means to follow Jesus and the challenges teenagers face as they live out their faith.
