They quickly discover that there are others who have similar struggles. It’s nice to know you’re not alone and others can understand what you’re going through. In fact, many DivorceCare leaders have been through divorce themselves and are examples of the healing and restoration that can occur after the breakup of a marriage.

The following is an overview of the DivorceCare experience:

You may feel a little nervous about going to DivorceCare the first time. However, those feelings will quickly go away because you’re surrounded by warm, empathetic people who really care.

You’ll be comforted and encouraged by others who understand your hurts, emotions and painful experiences! The good news is: You don’t have to walk alone - there are others who know what you are going through.

You’ll learn some practical information that will help you recover from your separation or divorce. The DivorceCare DVD features top-notch experts on divorce and recovery subjects and you’ll be exposed to actual case studies of people just like you, who are willing to talk about their divorce experience.

You’ll have a chance to talk about your own life in a safe, supportive context. In DivorceCare, people are able to work through the grief and disappointments of the past. Participants have a chance to not only discuss the content of the DVD presentation but also to talk about what they are personally going through. But there is never any pressure to share your story in DivorceCare.

You’ll grow closer to others. DivorceCare members often talk about the bonding that takes place in their group. Participation in DivorceCare enables new friendships to form which helps to fill the void that exists when a marriage breaks down. DivorceCare is designed to be a safe place for participants, so dating relationships between group members are not encouraged (to allow you time to focus on your personal healing).

Your children will have the opportunity to heal. On occasion, Heritage also offers DivorceCare for Kids (DC4K) groups. DC4K is a warm environment for children to learn how to work through the hurt of divorce. The DC4K program features video presentations, music, games, crafts and activities for kids ages 5–12.

You’ll discover hope for the future. Things can look awful bleak when you’re in the midst of a divorce and that is why it is important to be connected to others who can help you rebuild your life. DivorceCare is designed to bring hope to hurting people and many say that this important ministry was just what they needed during a very difficult time in their lives.

Dick and Patty have a genuine love for people and they have made themselves available to serve others in a much-needed way.

Their unique ministry involves helping people experience freedom through Jesus Christ. In fact, they have helped many people be healed from past hurts and delivered from demonic oppression. The Bible makes it clear that “our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand” (Ephesians 6:12-13, NIV).

We thank God for Dick and Patty Luchtenberg. They are Spirit-filled Christians who have been gifted by God to discern the needs of others and to lead them to Jesus to experience His healing touch. It is important to take the following steps to prepare for this ministry:

Pray for God to guide you to the best available help.

Read about the deliverance testimonies in the link below or pick up a copy of the booklet Deliverance is Freedom at the Family Life Booth in the Heritage lobby. Also, read the first ten chapters of the Gospel of Mark. Highlight the scriptures referring to demons, evil spirits, unclean spirits, deliverance and Satan.

Make contact with the Luchtenberg’s for an appointment by clicking on the link below.

To prepare yourself for your time with Dick and Patty it is best to pray and fast (if it is ok with your doctor), humbling yourself before Almighty God.

If married, seek the confirmation of your spouse.

Bring a clean vessel, confess all known sins to God. Be ready to talk openly with the Luchtenberg’s about the struggles you are facing. First John 1:9 says: If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness (NIV).

If it is discerned (through words of knowledge and wisdom and the discerning of spirits) that demonic forces have been afflicting you, you will be urged to follow the admonition of James 4:7: Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

Come to God with a thankful heart for He is willing and able to set you free!

The writer is unknown.

“For the life of me, I can’t understand what could have gone wrong in Littleton, Colo. If only the parents had kept their children away from the guns, we wouldn’t have had such a tragedy. Yeah, it must have been the guns.

It couldn’t have been because of half our children being raised in broken homes.

It couldn’t have been because our children get to spend an average of 30 seconds in meaningful conversation with their parents each day. After all, we give our children quality time.

It couldn’t have been because we treat our children as pets and our pets as children.

It couldn’t have been because we place our children in day care center where they learn their socialization skills among their peers under the law of the jungle while employees who have no vested interest in the children look on and make sure that no blood is spilled.

It couldn’t have been because we allow our children to watch, on average, seven hours of television a day filled with the glorification of sex and violence that isn’t fit for adult consumption.

It couldn’t have been because we allow our children to enter into virtual worlds in which, to win the game, one must kill as many opponents as possible in the most sadistic way possible.

It couldn’t have been because we have sterilized and contracepted our families down to sizes so small that the children we do have are so spoiled with material things that they come to equate the receiving of the material with love.

It couldn’t have been because our children, who historically have been seen as a blessing from God, are now being viewed as either a mistake created when contraception fails or inconveniences that parents try to raise in their spare time.

It couldn’t have been because our nation is the world leader in developing a culture of death in which 20 million to 30 million babies have been killed by abortion.

It couldn’t have been because we give two‑year prison sentences to teen‑agers who kill their newborns.

It couldn’t have been because we teach our children that there are no laws of morality that transcend us, that everything is relative and that actions don’t have consequences. What the heck, the president gets away with it.

Nah, it must have been the guns.”

In fact, many people would say that separation and divorce are the most stressful events they have ever faced.

DivorceCare is a warm, caring group of people who help each other work through the guilt, frustrations, anger and disappointment surrounding the breakdown of their marriages. DivorceCare groups meet weekly to help you face these challenges and move toward rebuilding your life. Each DivorceCare session has two distinct elements:

1. A seminar with experts. During the first 30-40 minutes of the meeting, each DivorceCare group watches a DVD featuring top experts on divorce and recovery subjects. These presentations are done in a compelling, television magazine format.

2. A support group with focus. After viewing the DVD, participants will discuss the contents of the message and will be asked to share what is going in their lives.

The weekly topics are as follows:

What’s Happening to Me? - Session 1

The Road to Healing/Finding Help - Session 2

Facing My Anger - Session 3

Facing My Depression - Session 4

Facing My Loneliness - Session 5

What Does the Owner’s Manual Say? - Session 6

New Relationships - Session 7

Financial Survival - Session 8

KidCare - Session 9
