This is a time children are taught the Bible, and worship God through music, dance and giving offerings. During the Large Group Teaching the Bible is made alive in fun, creative ways in a large-group setting. Each month introduces a character virtue and Bible verse to memorize. In addition to the Bible teaching we have a monthly Missions Connection. We meet and interact with real live missionaries, who tell us how God is working all over the world! It is our hope that Heritage Kids will view missions as something they want to be part of, either sending others or going themselves someday!

Following the large-group teaching, the children divide into grade-level small groups with their teachers. In small group, children participate in lesson-reinforcing activities such as games, crafts, prayer and discussion groups. Girls and boys have separate classes starting in fourth grade. Additionally, the third weekend of each month the 4th & 5th graders attend a class specifically-designed just for them called “Apologia 101.” This class helps our young people learn about the Christian faith and how to live it in the real world.

It is our goal that your child experiences God’s love, makes new friends, learns biblical truth, and interacts with caring servants while they are at Heritage Christian Church. Questions about our curriculum? Please contact Elementary Director, Lori Liston, lliston@heritagecc.org. As a special feature of our curriculum, parents can follow up with their children and point them to an online experience, CUE Box is filled with activities to help parents and kids interact with each other as they continue to learn about this month’s virtue at home. To find out more or to order CUE Box, go to http://www.studio252.tv.

The truth taught in Deuteronomy 6:7 is that the parents are primarily responsible for guiding the spiritual development of their children. This is an important concept to fully understand and embrace. Whereas Sunday school has traditionally been looked to as the place where children learn about God, the Bible teaches us that children really need to learn primarily from their parents.

A Child Dedication enables a parent to come before the Lord and church to publicly state this is their desire. Taking this step will help parents gain more confidence that they have a wonderful support structure for this most noble task. Once you have concluded that God has given YOU the challenging task of being the primary person responsible for your child’s spiritual development, then you are ready to take the next step of dedicating your child to the Lord.

We have child dedications for younger children. The child dedication is a covenant between the parents and God on behalf of the child. The parents promise to raise their child in the faith until the child is old enough to make his/her own personal confession of Christ.

The baptism talked about in the Bible was only for those who were old enough to believe. The purpose is to publicly confess your personal commitment to Christ. We encourage every believer to be baptized the way Jesus demonstrated. If your child is ready and mature enough to make the decision to be baptized, please click here for the next class schedule.

I encountered a little piece of God’s love as the family turned and saw the little girl in my wife’s arms. The mother, who had been holding it together, took her little girl, embraced her and broke down weeping. We walked back to the car, praising God that we could help show His love to that family.
